Our oral presentation

I must say I was impressed! Most of you put a lot of effort in trying to be creative....most of you put a lot of time in memorizing your speeches....most of you did a lot of practice. I bet the mirror, the dummy, the gfs, bfs or whoever or whatever you used for practice must have been bored listening to you practice! :) But its ok, it was worthwhile don't you agree?

I loved your introductions. Most of you managed to 'hook' the attention of the reader. More importantly you followed the basic rules of delivering a speech even though some of you forgot to give a preview/ state your purpose in the intro.

You all also brought along your enthusiasm, humor and a positive attitude...which to me was of importance. You used your non verbal cues appropriately I must say with some minor awkwardness here and there...

However quite a number of you made a mistake by not keeping to the time and also over wording your power point slides. Its ok, it takes a lot of practice and in time you'll be better at it.

So tell me now, how was your experience giving the presentation? Please describe to me:

i) What you think your mistakes were during the presentation?
ii) What were your strengths as a speaker?

  1. The most experience that I can't forget is when giving the presentation. I make a lot of mistakes although the topic is about my self, something that only I know it better.

Everybody will done at least a mistake when giving a presentation, so do I. One of my mistake is talking so fast. My voice projection is also not cleared. I don't think so that the audience can understand me...
However, I think I've cover my mistakes with my strength as a speaker. My beautiful and interesting slide have attract many attention of the audience. Besides, have a good eye contact also can keep the audience to pay attention yo us.

  2. Thank you for your complements out of courtesy >.<
I know I'm one of the ones who did pretty badly.

I guess my biggest mistake was time management which was very obvious, since my presentation ended so abruptly. I regretted that I couldn't share the rest of the story, but I'm quite glad at least I have introduced this wonderful person to everyone. Another thing that I encountered was of course, my nervousness again. My speech was actually different from what I have practised.

I can only think of 2 strong points that I'm quite proud of, which is my loud and clear voice and my choice in choosing a topic.

Although this may offend some people, but I think we should put in more effort in choosing a good topic during the presentation, or at least present some stronger points. Especially for the topic on oneself. It may be harsh to put it this way, but very few that did this topic actually attracted or amazed me >.<. This is because that some of them only talked about ordinary things that happens to just about everyone else. When you're trying to amaze people during the presentation about yourself, you don't have to tell us EVERYTHING about yourself. Just pick a target, ie a theme or a particular point that you're ABSOLUTELY proud of and confident that you CAN amaze the audience. For example, a trick that few can perform, a charateristic that is rare among people nowadays, etc. These are the out-of-the-ordinary things that can actually make people go 'Wow!' instead of 'Oh...That's it?'

So, I hope that everyone of us should put in effort not just in practice, but also other aspects regarding a presentation. When you actually try very hard for the sake of the audience, it shows.

Finally, I apologise if my comment offended anyone (Which I'm quite sure I did =P). But I sincerely hope that we can learn from each other and be a better speaker when we graduate. Let's work hard till then. =)

  5. I'm not happy with my presentation.!!!!!The wrong thing that i had do during the presentation. It something that i think should not happen during that time. Why everything become blurred???I can't speak like what I had practise...it is disaster..i realize that i speak too faster and I'm not seen the slides properly..The stength that I realize during that time is I can stand infront of audience and can make myself comfortable with the situation..

  6. Im not so sure whether i've did any mistakes during the presentation...!
But i felt a bit nervous when im going to start the presentation.Scare cant speak fluently and manage to end my presentation in 3 minutes time.Im thinking, what if my presentation is boring and fail to attract attention of my coursemates and lecturer? Negative thinking consider as mistakes?
I've tried my best to think of the way on how im going to present.Hope it's interesting and not out of topic.
My presentation seems different from others as my main point is 'BLISS' while the topic is
'Myself'.Not bad, correct? Hope could share my happiness to all my coursemates and lecturer.
    Haha!

  10. i think, i do a lot of mistakes during the presentation. my handgestures, my voice, my timing.. eventhough i've experience so many impromtu, speech and also presentation before, the same mistake happens again and again. maybe its because i'm not confident with myself. well, i'm not sure about it.. my strength?? hmm..i think its voice projection and also my pronounciation that is clear and loud that makes others understand what i said in front and what my talk is all about. whatever it is, im sure, next time, ill try to put more effort in my presentation in order to avoid me from doing the same mistake again..

  12. I think my mistake during the presentation is I depend too much to the slide .There are too many detail in my slide.I should reduce some of detail in the slide and try to memories it.
Besides, too much detail in slide is also make me spend too much time to watch the slide. So I think my eyes contact with audience is not enough.
I think my strength in the presentation is i have loud voice and I had used the microphone in my presentation to make sure all audience can hear my voice clearly.
I hope this experience can help me become a good speaker in future.

  15. "So tell me now, how was your experience giving the presentation? Please describe to me:

    i) What you think your mistakes were during the presentation?
ii) What were your strengths as a speaker?" Said Guru.

    Then..

I say, "Hello there, it's me again.. hehe.. just finish my visit to my friend house, as it is Raya Celebration... hehe..

Anyway, Guru asked about my experience, so here it is... hm.. it's not a very good experience, as there is a little bit of disappointment..

i could have done better on that day actually, the presentation would have be more interesting and happening if i were well-prepared enough on that day.. it's not about the time given for preparation as it has been almost a month.. maybe because of my poor time management.. which is indeed one of my own weaknesses these days.. huhu..

Hmm. 0kay, lets proceed to first question..
about my own mistakes during the presentation.. the most visible mistake that i've made is walking sideways to much, it is of course because of my nervousness.. huhu..

My next mistakes is on my words pronunciation, i may have spoken too fast when i am in my nervous state:(

hm.. another mistakes is... hah, it is about my eye contact.. honestly, i've made only a few eye contact with the audience eventhough it seems like i look everyone it the room.. that also occured only in my nervous state too..

and many more mistakes actually, but i think that's all that i would like to say now, and lets continue to next question.. that is about my.. strength of course(^_^)..

It is just the same as before actually,
my strengths are my experience in presenting, my loud voice projection, body posture(maybe), and my self-confidence in a moderate level of course, not very high and not very low.. hehe..

Okay, i'm off for now.. Itadakimasu(^_^).."

  16. Hello,,..
Being in the front of everybody certainly will make us nervous.

This is what happen to me when i doesn't have enough preparation. Actually its just take half an hour for me to finish the text and do some training.

When it's my turn to give the speech the text that i try to memorize gone. i just like an empty tank,..

i try to calm my self and try to talk,..
When the first world come out, spontaneously new idea pop up in my head.

conclusion, i need to make an early preparation so that i can go further in thw world of speech..

by the way "selamat hari raya", sorry for everything's,..

  19. During the presentation, I have do a lot of the mistake.Ehmm...let me think about it...When I need to start my presentation,I feel nervous and could not speak fluently. So,sometime I need to see the paper and just read it out only because of my nervousness.
Hope that I can improve myself and can give the good performance for the next presentation.
For my stength, I think that I can give the good eye contact to the everyone.Beside that,my presentation slide is also quite easy to make everyone understand. But whether my slide can attract everyone or not just depand to all of you.Haha....

  22. Perhaps because English is not my first language, so my English is not very good, my hobbies are magic, but magic in the English language, and some Chinese do not use, so I use I think the most influential the vocabulary to organize my language. So I think my drawback, which is not found suitable for their own language to introduce my hobby. Failed to do adequate preparation.
strengths as a speaker ... ... em I think that it is my self-confidence, because when I was performing magic is very confident. Self-confidence comes from faith. I believe that when I have some ways to increase the English language, I will become a very good Speaker!
