Stage fright

I sweat, I fumble and I even shiver!! Why?

...it is ok guys, these are common stage frights. Do not fret, in our lessons to come we would look at how to overcome this. Like I always say "Prepare, prepare and prepare" - which is only like a pinch of salt when it comes to overcoming anxieties during presentations. So what is your take on the issue of stage fright? How do you overcome presentation anxieties? Look at d website I suggested and blog about it here...

  1. It's a fairly common problem even for the experienced ones. I used to think that I was being abnormal or lack of courage for being fearful of the idea of public presentation. But in reality, it's quite the contrary. We feel anxious simply because we care about what people think of us as we present or speak.

Personally, I think that there's no easy way or shortcut to directly overcome this problem. The feeling comes naturally as you practice more and gain more experience.

However, I do believe in the idea of 'no pain, no gain'. In order to overcome the anxiety and fear, you must first feel and conquer it. As Batman's mentor have said in the movie Batman Begins, 'breathe in your fear, face them'. Once we get used to the feeling, it won't be as bad as we thought it would be. That's why we musn't run away from it.

That said, I don't have much experience in public presentation myself. I remember during a group ice-breaking session when I went to a seminar. I still remember how I stood there and I failed to make the sound for the longest time, the sound that even a 3-year-old child knows. It was embarrassing, but it was a good experience.

Again, when I was in Form 6, I was chosen by my class to participate in an impromptu speaking contest. Surely, I could've rejected it if I insisted. But I wouldn't learn if I keep escaping. The outcome was as expected - I made quite a lot of mistakes that I usually wouldn't make in writing. But at least I forced myself to keep talking even though my mind was blank.

The conclusion is, we have to face our fear if we want to move on. It's our lives, we can run away for as long as we want, but we won't be living our life to the fullest if we do.

i always faced tis presentation anxieties problem. eventhough i always talk in front of people during presentation and debate many and many times before, i still facing the same problem. however, i try to cover it and make it dindn't look too obvious. one of the things that i do to overcome this presentation anxieties is i didnt wear my spectacles during my presentation eventhough i have a sight problem so that i won't see my audience face that will make me more nervous. secondly, i try to prepare as much as posible to gain my confidence. next, i'll practice my talk again and again. well, like people say.."practice makes perfect"...

  8. i'm become blur, no idea and also lost confident to my self....
    why?
this is a true story. i'm a coward. i'll be like rubbish when i speak infront the public..
But, its happen when i be in the primary school. I'm try to prevent this weakness on my self. firstly, i'll take a few minute before the representation. i'll go to the field or some place that make me more confident and take a deep breath, and also try to find a spirit in my self. secondly, i'll take a revision on what i want to talk about. I need a week before "that" day ocme. But within a week, i cannot be a good representation. this the way i use to overcome my weakness.
Time to time, i'm change a little. I have a spirit to talk or to present something to the public or the audience. But i'll improve my self and become a great toastmaster..
    maybe...
this is how i describe my self, hopefully you'll enjoy it...

  10. When talk about presentation everyone scared of it.That feeling is never 'get out' from my self!!..Myself also have presentation anxieties..When give a speech everything is been stuck and everything that I talk is like nonsense.Morever, when I see the audience face and they look back to me, I feel that everything that I have prepare is getting lost from my mind."This is true what I'm talking about?" or "They don't know about what I'm talking now?".That all come out from my mind..Everything is been blurred. For me, the way would be helpful for me during giving a speech is take some of sweet. When my mouth have something to chew ,I feel that there are nothing that can make me too think about my surrounding..so let eat sweet TOGETHER!!!

  11. Imagine yourself standing infront of a crowd where every eyes were watching you.I'm sure that we will freek out in this situation.I do have gone through this experience when i sat for muet speaking test. That was the moment where i learn that don't ever let fear to control you. There are many ways that could be helpful.First take a deep breathe and drink a glass of water before you start the speech.Next try to hold something squeesable where your fingers can play with it while you are talking.PARIMALA DEVY(CB09043)

  12. Nervous...

When I stand infront of many people,I will feel very nervous. This is the big problem I face.I should maintain my emotional stability. So during I give a presentation,I wil try to relax myself and have a deep breathing maybe is useful for me to solve this problem.

  15. PRESENTATION is the word that make people around the world get scared, nervous, stage fright and get a lot type of feelings.I am one of them.Presentation is a way where a speaker or presenter can talk, give speech and share ideas in front of public andcrowd.Presentation can be carried out in many function, occasion, competion, and many others.
Presentation anxieties is one of the problems that face by presenter, but it can be overcome and here some ways to overcome it.Firstly, practise your presentation in front of mirror. This because research has said that with the practise you can less down your nervousness and will be less tension. This practise also can help to overcome facial expression, hand movement, posture, eye
    contact,and perfect language.
Beside that, before presentation start you can eat sweet or drink plenty of water. This is to avoid your throat to dry, shake, and stuck, once you start speeking. If your voice stuck and shake then you cannot pronounce all the words in your presentation correctly and clearly.
If this situation happen then it can give a bad effects to your presentation and the public or crowd that putting theirs ears on your presentation would feel boring, unhappy, and blank.
Finally, you need to be puntual that means reach before the time for your presentations to start. As example your presentation starting at 9.00 a.m,so you need to be at your presentation venue early 1 or 2hours than the audience. If your are late than it will give a bad impression about yourself and your character.By reaching early you can get enough and more time to be ready for your presentation. This can help you to acchieve the selfconfident and selfesteem where you would not easily give up and feel nervous. This also can help you to adjust yourself with the condition and situation at the venue of your presentation. If you arrive late then your presentation will be uopside down.
    THANK YOU

  19. There are many ways to overcome presentation anxieties.. however, it will be a different ways
for different peoples. For me, the best way is practice. By practice, we can raise our confident level. Try to practice in front of a mirror or your friends. Ask your friends to give comments if possible.

Besides, we should have a good posture because a good posture will affect our confidence. During the presentation, try not to bend your body. Stand straight and try to be relax. this will make you and the audience comfortable.

  21. From my point of view,to publish our ideas to the public,we have to
Speak or present in public..The sharing of the ideas can take place anywhere
Such as in function, celebrations and even official meetings..For most of the people,
Speaking in public become terrifying and stressful thing to do..They break out in cold sweat, feeling butterflies in their spines and these symptoms will effect their confidence
And they will lost their ability to think and speak in a more coherent way..
Even I’ve the same problem..Everytime I got a chance to speak in public,
Nervousness will get over me..but,I’ve managed it to figureout some ways to improve myself..
One of the way is keep on practicing..Whenever you are prepared, the nervousness
In you will not be visible because of your confident..Speaking in front of the mirror can be a very good method to practice..
Other than that,I intend to close my mouth..by that way,I can release my nervousness..
Moreover, before doing a presentation,I will relax myself by going through the prepared notes to build my courage..

  22. "So what is your take on the issue of stage fright? How do you overcome presentation anxieties? Look at d website I suggested and blog about it here... " said Guru.

    Then..

I say, "Stage fright is actually most likely to be a natural habit, act, or even feelings of a normal human being that is given eyes, ears and mind by the CREATOR.. i can even says that those who never experience it isn't a normal person indeed.. am i right?.. as though, it is just an individual point of view, so.. i am not expecting everyone to agree on that.. okay. i think that's enough, let's continue on the questions shall we..

hm.. How to overcome presentation anxieties?

There are many ways actually, but let me share with all of you on a few only okay(^_^)..

    There are three stages.

First stage is before your presentation. Of course you'll have to prepare in aspects such as your content regarding on the title or the environment on the presentation day. But, you also have to prepare mentally as well, you have to be brave and for that purpose, you'll have to do some practice either talking in front of the mirror, in front of your friends or even at the real venue for your presentation like in a rehearsal for an example.

Secondly, during your presentation. During the event, you have to walk steadily and stand in a proper pose as it helps to make you appear to be more relaxed.. then, smile to the audience and search for the most friendly looking audience before you starts your presenting. Lastly, minimize and reduce your thoughts on how the audience will think of you and your presentation, just act normal and present just like in your practice.

Thirdly, that is the last stage is after your presentation. After you're done presenting. Don't forget to thank the audience and give them a huge sincere, honest, and calm smile(^_^).

That all from me, may all of us gain some benefit from what is written above. Thank You(^_^).."

We can communicate more with strangers, try to answer the questions, and actively introduce yourself. If you want to do in the pay is need some. Just like my magic, need often practice will let the audience feel happy and happy, speech actually is the same.
