I know you guys are back for your loooong holiday! I hope you all arrived in your hometown in one piece and return in one piece :) It is the best time to be with family and friends. I hate to spoil your mood....but what to do! Your study comes first right?
This week we looked at technical description and we did some mind-boggling activity. It was interesting yet complicated. So in order to make you understand about technical description clearly, I would like you to read an article on any product and share what you have read here. What you can comment on is:
i. the type of language used to describe the product
ii. the way the writer organizes the article (i.e first he talks about the cord, then the body and then the functions etc.)
Please indicate where you got the article from. If it is online, give me the url. PLEASE do not copy and paste the article into this blog. And remember when you return from your break you are going to present what we have discussed earlier...also don't forget the outline that should come with the presentation!
Happy holidays!

Our oral presentation
I must say I was impressed! Most of you put a lot of effort in trying to be creative....most of you put a lot of time in memorizing your speeches....most of you did a lot of practice. I bet the mirror, the dummy, the gfs, bfs or whoever or whatever you used for practice must have been bored listening to you practice! :) But its ok, it was worthwhile don't you agree?
I loved your introductions. Most of you managed to 'hook' the attention of the reader. More importantly you followed the basic rules of delivering a speech even though some of you forgot to give a preview/ state your purpose in the intro.
You all also brought along your enthusiasm, humor and a positive attitude...which to me was of importance. You used your non verbal cues appropriately I must say with some minor awkwardness here and there...
However quite a number of you made a mistake by not keeping to the time and also over wording your power point slides. Its ok, it takes a lot of practice and in time you'll be better at it.
So tell me now, how was your experience giving the presentation? Please describe to me:
i) What you think your mistakes were during the presentation?
ii) What were your strengths as a speaker?

Impromptu speech
"urrgghh....I hate impromptu speeches...they always catch me off guard"
That's how I usually feel when I am asked to give an impromptu speech. You guys did just that. How did it feel? The topics I choose for you was pretty easy but it was impromptu! So I bet there were things you felt you could have done better at right? Blog about your strengths and weaknesses as a presenter based on the comments made by your friends. Write about how you feel about the comments? Are they justified?

Cancer kills
As you all know cancer kills many lives each year. There are numerous types of cancer. What I would like you to do is read an article about cancer, any types. It CAN be a specific cancer or it can be something general. It can also be a story about a cancer patient. Based on your reading blog about it here. It is a general knowledge that can be shared here.

Stage fright
I sweat, I fumble and I even shiver!! Why?
...it is ok guys, these are common stage frights. Do not fret, in our lessons to come we would look at how to overcome this. Like I always say "Prepare, prepare and prepare" - which is only like a pinch of salt when it comes to overcoming anxieties during presentations. So what is your take on the issue of stage fright? How do you overcome presentation anxieties? Look at d website I suggested and blog about it here...
